About Us

Who we are. We are a bunch of six students at Hereward College, we're a college for students with disabilities.

Supported by the College Learner Leadership Coordinator, Lynn Richie, we are campaigning to make people aware of the problems they cause by inconsiderate parking. The group is made up of residential, day and intern students, some who are wheelchair users and have experienced difficulties getting from A to B safely because they have had to go out into the roads to get past parked vehicles they, risking their lives going onto the road.

Our campaign has been endorsed by Coventry City Council’s Disability Equality Advisory Panel and we are being sponsored by Coventry Bears RFC, Tesco Canley and The Royal Bengal restaurant. We are now using twitter, as well as this website, to gain followers and for more people notice what we are trying to achieve.

What we do. We are campaigning to try to get the message across that people who park their vehicles on pavements make it difficult for people who push pushchairs, wheelchair users and visually impaired people, to access pedestrian walkways. We started the campaign in September and will continue the project until July 2018. Parking on pavements is not illegal in Coventry but we hope to change people’s attitude and make people think before they park and to leave room for pedestrians.

So far, we have been doing research, collecting data and handing out leaflets in the Bull Yard in the City Centre, where we talked to the public about our campaign. Two members of the group have been interviewed by BBC Coventry and Warwickshire and, with the use of social media; we hope to reach a wider audience.
